This is a patchwork-pieced pattern. The blocks are made almost entirely of rotary-cut squares and rectangles, and everything is sewn together using conventional patchwork techniques.
The Witch's hat and the Candy Corn blocks are made using the full-size cutting guides on Page 4 of the pattern. The piecing instructions include using the cutting guide to cut the pieced units to size, sewing slightly-too-large pieces of background fabric to the sides, and then trimming the pieced units to the correct sizes. This method makes it easier to piece these components without having to match multiple points.
This pattern includes a large number of pieces, many of which are small, but the same basic patchwork piecing techniques are used throughout. The pattern includes detailed cutting directions, including charts that show all of the pieces included in each block. The instructions for making each block include both written directions and full-color diagrams for each step.
The blocks in the sample quilts shown were made with 18 Kona Solids, which are listed on the pattern back (see image) and on the fabric chart inside the pattern. The pattern also includes detailed lists of the pieces needed for each block, so it’s easy to substitute scraps and use what you have.
